Haya rashed al Khalifa  law firm presents latest developments and expertise in fin-tech

Bahraini law firm Haya Rashed Al Khalifa gave public presentation latest developments on fin-tech (financial technology) on 28 October 2021 at the Diplomat Radisson Blu hotel conference centre in Manama.

The event was attended by over 40 guests.  Opening addresses were given by Sheikha Haya Rashed Al Khalifa, the founder of the firm, and by Ms. Yasmeen Al-Sharaf, Director of Fin-Tech and Innovation at the Central Bank of Bahrain, who was guest of honour.  Mr Ashley Freeman, formerly General Counsel of the Central Bank of Bahrain, who is now Head of Banking and Finance at Haya Rashed Al Khalifa law firm.  Address the keynote of the event, entitled “Latest Developments in Islamic Fin-tech - the U.K. and Bahrain contrasted” Mr. Freeman illustrated how fin-tech had emerged in a relatively short period to fundamentally change the financial services landscape.  It also dealt with the responses of governmental authorities, and how these will likely change in the coming years and the opportunities and challenges that fin-tech participants would face.  There was also advice for budding fin-tech entrepreneurs.

Sheikha Haya commented “We were delighted to hold this event.  Not only is the subject of critical importance to Bahrain’s economic vision, but public events such as these underline our firm’s commitment to reaching out to the community after a difficult 18 months for everyone. Ashley has extremely wide knowledge of financial law across many jurisdictions, so it was interesting to hear his observations.”

Mr Freeman commented “The relationship between the U.K. and the Kingdom of Bahrain has always been very strong and I was keen to contrast how the growth of fin-tech had impacted both countries in varying ways and will increasingly influence our lives.  I am indebted to my colleague Salah AlZubair for his assistance with certain local aspects of the presentation.”

After the keynote address, attendees had an active exchange of ideas related to the subject matter at the question & answer session.
